PRESS
The place where you no longer have the right to remain silent
Press is a beautiful, magical wonderland straight out of a fairytale for those people who love contemporary global issues but have a flair for exploring the creative side of it. It is a safe haven for all experimental and imaginative virtuosos who are looking for a new avenue to showcase their talents. While MUNs are often advertised as a ‘place for stimulation of debate’, MUNs are also a place for honing writing, photography and illustrative skills. And these three fortes come together to form the Press team. Press is basically a space for people who enjoy drama, but are careful enough not to partake in it. Here at SMUN, the Press team will be the hot spot for all things fun and light hearted.
The reason we encourage you to join the Press team is because you will understand the importance of various kinds of perspectives. You will understand the joy of having your name next to your featured work, and having committees read and appreciate what you spent hours editing over and over again until you were completely satisfied. But most importantly, you will learn to ignore unprecedented hate and continue doing what you really love to do. Because when your passion and job merge together, your voice will be so powerful that it will blow everyone else right out of the water. And that’s when you’ll know you truly belong here.
So, welcome to the tribe. We can’t wait to see what you have to offer to this amalgamation of special, coveted, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (yes, that word was used to denote literary superiority) artists’ heaven.
JOURNALISM

Journalists will be allotted committees two weeks before the symposium. Journalists will shift between committees during the conference. They will be required to note down interesting proceedings of the committee. Journalists will be permitted to interact with delegates during lobbying time. They are not permitted to ask Points of Information or disrupt formal session in any way at SMUN ’19. Delegates can be questioned, quoted and interviewed. Interviews with the Executive Board, delegates, logistics members or other Press members in the form of Press Conferences can also be taken at this time. Due credit must be given to each interviewee. An informal creative piece based on the day’s proceedings will have to be written from a third-party perspective.
PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography refers to capturing memorable moments for the future. At SMUN ’19, photographers will be allotted committees to take pictures and videos of the exciting events of the day. They have permission to freely roam about the room and find spots that they find convenient for taking their best photos. At the end of each day, the photographers will be required to submit their top 15 pictures to the Head of Photography. The pictures with the best angles, quality, composition and subject will be published in the Press newsletter. Editing of all kinds using Photoshop, Snapseed, VSCO, iMovie, Inshot, Windows editor etc. is allowed. Photographers will also be required to help edit the after-movie on the third day of the conference. Video making and editing skills are thus crucial for all photographers.
ILLUSTRATION

Illustrations offer a fresh outlook on written matter and are an essential part of any publication, be it newspapers, magazines or books. At this edition of SMUN, digital illustrators as well as pen-and-paper artists shall be part of the team. Illustrators, like journalists and photographers, will be allotted committees for each day. They are encouraged to interact and coordinate with other Press members, especially journalists, to come up with relevant illustrations such as comic strips, infographics, doodles, layouts and caricatures. At the end of each day, they will be required to submit article-based illustrations to the Head of Design. Each article will have a minimum of 1 design that will be scanned and cropped for the newsletter. Illustrations must be relevant, creative and aesthetically appealing. Illustrations that are a combination of both digital and non - digital illustration are looked favourably upon, but there is no compulsion to do both.
